STONE ISLAND IS A LABEL NOT A BADGE

TODAYS thoughts from the bunker......

Looking through my blog last night , I was thinking how complex this popular culture thing is . Where do you stand, in amongst the tidal wave of genre and pigeon holeing , as a younger man it was accepted for us to be breakdancing in the morning and then down the match in the afternoon ,going from bustin moves to bustin heads in 12 hrs flat, not that I condone any thuggery but , nowadays could you see these little chavy stone island boys (not that im against fine italian knitware ,but its not to be used as a badge for biggin yaself up) spending Saturday morning droppin windmills to ollie and jerry and then up the match for knuckle? Let alone coming back and skateboarding apres match. I wonder whether these young sconies , are down with the good vibes or is it all playing the football factory game.

i was lucky growing up in the two tone era, many people only a couple of years younger have not got their heads round the fact that two tone means black and white together . Some thinking the whole scene to be full of racists, it escaped their vision that the bands were made up of blacks and whites. Yea we dressed sharp ,but not mean and didnt we didnt think a label gave you the right to hate .

rudeboying led me into into the casual thing , but even then I could see the look taking fashions in from different sides, coming together to form casual , we would be fighting mods in west street one week and then ,all of a sudden the boundaries became a little blurred, sharp jumpers and rollnecks teamed up with kickers and the them awful lois jumbos were the order of the day .

over the years ive been through more haircuts than a girls world training school. The skin ,the suede wedge, the mushroom wedge , the mullet , ala backperm the french crop, the raver hair ,and then the dreads sounds confused maybe but i loved the way fashions changed weekly back then, saving my money up to buy that ski jacket, and then the barbour becomes the look .. ,for me the tacchini looked just as at home on the terrace as it did on the lino. You know I think that look has stayed with me through this life Years later the early rave scene hit and all of a sudden I'm back in flares and kickers, my dress sense to me is tops ,to the outsider, and it has been mentioned, it seems a little confused, i put that down to a time with less boundries . jeez I've been a skin , and a dread in my time ,is that strange to you cos to me they don't seem that far removed from each other.PEOPLE NEED TO REMEMBER WHERE SKINHEADS CAME FROM, THE ROCKSTEADY AND SKA ERA.

its all to do with the label ( not the tacchini ) and the box that we constantly put people in, i find myself doing it , and then moaning when people do it to me, some times i love the look when my mate Daph and i get when we walk down the street , him clad proper in a full set of dreads and me in my council house chic , white trainers and pringle all the way whats the coup? , Daph and i have known each other through many years and many changes ,in an ideal world maybe those sly looks will go someway to getin the nasty stoney boys down chavchills to drop a windmill one saturday..................

there seems to be a lot more youth cults around these days , the whole goth indie kid thing has been stepping up large of late, as well as the whole punker skate thing , each of which has passed on to me some good music , i seem to be listening to a lot of music from a lot of genres ,that up untill now i have not made much time for.

i wonder do all these groups of kids mix socialy as much as we did , i personaly dont think so, but i have been known to be wrong in the past .

nostalga maybe playing tricks with my mind but
you can apreciate fine italian knitware with out being a cock
